She initially captures the sense of place through traditional techniques \u003cem\u003een plein air\u003c\/em\u003e on small board, in oil. On returning to her studio, on the Essex \/ Suffolk border, she works from these paintings, creating large scale canvases that aim to create a sense of space and distance, aiming to give the viewer a moment of calm and solitude and a sense of living in the landscape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMadeleine's paintings have been described as calming, liminal, an antidote to our manmade environment, an antidote to our busy days, all while bringing the outside indoors. Her large canvas works depict the familiar land around us, edited and simplified, focusing only on nature, light and the subtleties of the undulating grasses or water, with a contemporary sensibility.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMadeleine has been an Art Teacher in secondary and sixth form colleges.
