Julia is never more at home than en plein air in the African bush, sketchbook in hand with wildlife in the landscape in front of her. With a natural ability to observe and work freely with swift fluid strokes of pencil and brush, she captures the moment with a unique immediacy. Filled sketchbooks are returned to her Hampshire studio to work up into full paintings.

For Julia, immersion within the landscape as she paints is half the joy, whether that’s in the African bush, a Spanish hilltop village square, on a Land Rover’s bonnet, or the shore of an estuary.
